For this weeklong celebration, New York welcomes chefs and winemakers from the beautiful, bountiful region of Baja California, home to more than 50 wineries and some of the most exciting chefs in the country. The wine and food festival kicks off this Wednesday, and here’s a look at some of the featured events:
On Thursday Feb. 27th, the Mexican Consulate’s Octavio Paz Gallery is the setting for Meet the Winemakers, where pros like Casa de Piedra’s Hugo D’Acosta and Viñas de Garza’s Amado Garza will share some of their best wines from Valle de Guadalupe. Chef Drew Deckman (from Deckman’s in San José del Cabo) will provide the canapes.
Friday Feb. 28th will be a triple-treat day, with three of our favorite Mexican restaurants hosting collaborative dinners with chefs from Baja. At Salón Hecho en Dumbo, chef Danny Mena welcomes Diego Hernández Baquedano (Corazón de Tierra), while Roberto Santibañez from Fonda will host Misión 19’s Javier Plascencia, and Drew Deckman will team up with Julián Medina at his recently-opened spot, Toloache Thompson.
On Saturday March 1st, there will be a wine tasting at Casa Mezcal with Phil Gregory from Vena Cava and Mauricio Cantú (Cava Aragón 126) among others, as well as a paired wine dinner with all chefs and winemakers at the main dining room of Hotel Americano.
